BIOGRAPHY

Madingo Afework was born on August 16, 1978, in Azezo, Gondar, Ethiopia. He later moved to Debre Tabor for his early education, where he developed an interest in music inspired by Ethiopian legends like Elias Tebabel and Muluken Melesse. At the age of 10, he joined the military band Zema Lastas, where he earned his nickname "Madingo."

Madingo Afework's music journey began with the release of his debut album, Siyame Atahulat, in 1999, which introduced him as a promising artist in Ethiopia. His second album, Ayedergem (2005), earned him nationwide recognition for its powerful lyrics and memorable melodies. After a decade-long gap, he made a triumphant return in 2015 with his third album, Swedlat, showcasing his growth as a musician and further cementing his legacy in the Ethiopian music industry. His unique voice and heartfelt performances made him a cherished figure in Ethiopian pop and patriotic music.
