BIOGRAPHY
Born and raised in Addis Ababa, Tewodros Tedesse has managed to bridge generational gaps with his music, earning admiration from a wide and varied audience. His musical journey began in a church choir, where he developed his vocal skills and passion for music. Tewodros's breakthrough came when he was invited to perform at a wedding, singing Muluken Melesse’s ‘Wasa Megena’. This performance was pivotal, marking the start of his singing career and establishing his presence in the Ethiopian music scene. Initially, Tewodros performed cover songs of well-known artists, which garnered positive feedback and encouraged him to continue. His debut album, Lubanjaye, was a significant success and quickly made him a household name. Building on this success, his subsequent albums, Eyekorekoregn and Sadulaye, also achieved considerable acclaim, further solidifying his reputation as a prominent artist in the industry.


Many of Tewodros Tedesse's songs have become anthems cherished across generations, with tracks like ‘Emeye Ethiopia’ standing out as particularly unforgettable. His vibrant voice and unique style earned him international recognition as he toured numerous countries, captivating audiences with his performances. His fifth album, Semeto Zzemale, was completed before he left for the US but was released only after his arrival in Virginia. While abroad, Tewodros performed at various venues and shared in interviews the challenges he faced during his time away from home.
Many critics note that Tewodros Tedesse's 1997 album, Zimita, marked a departure from his earlier work, incorporating jazz influences and offering a fresh sound to his fans. Although he began working on a new album in 1998, personal challenges diverted his focus. Returning to Ethiopia after 17 years, Tewodros was overwhelmed by the warm reception from fans at the airport, who greeted him with hugs and heartfelt expressions of love. During his stay, he performed at various venues before heading back to the US. In 2009, he established an independent studio and continues to perform across the United States. As vice president of Yo Yo Records, Tewodros aims to elevate Ethiopian music on the international stage. His latest album targets both Ethiopian audiences and global music enthusiasts who appreciate alternative sounds beyond mainstream hits. Following its release, he plans to embark on a world tour.
